Slaughterhouse Wastewater Treatment — Netherlands
The Challenge
A major slaughterhouse in the Netherlands was facing increasing difficulties meeting discharge requirements due to expanded production capacity. Their existing treatment system could no longer handle the higher organic loads and fat content in the wastewater.
The Solution
VDZ Aqua designed and supplied a complete treatment system consisting of a drum filter for initial solids removal, a WPF flocculator for chemical conditioning, and a PFL series DAF unit for efficient separation of fats, solids, and organic matter. The system was engineered to handle peak production flows while maintaining consistent effluent quality.
The Results
The new installation achieved consistent compliance with discharge requirements even at maximum production capacity. Fat removal efficiency exceeded 95%, and total suspended solids were reduced by over 90%. The compact design fit within the available footprint without disrupting ongoing operations.
