DAF System — IPL Series
High, open-tank dissolved air flotation separator with plate pack technology for efficient separation of flocs from water.
The VDZ Aqua IPL flotation unit is a high, open-tank separator for dissolved-air-assisted separation of flocs from water. Wastewater enters the inlet compartment via a distribution system, with dissolved air already dosed before entry.
Heavy particles settle and collect in the sludge cone under the plate packs, while dissolved air provides buoyancy to the floc, creating an air cushion under the floating layer. At the outlet of the flocculator, pre-treated water is mixed with recycled water containing very finely dispersed air bubbles (approximately 50 microns) that attach to the floc and provide strong buoyancy.
The liquid is evenly distributed over the full width of the separation basin. Rapidly rising floc accumulates in a floating surface layer, while slower rising floc are separated in the plate pack countercurrent to the flow. A unique rotating pin system provides energy for sludge de-watering while pushing it forward. A sludge skimmer removes relatively dry sludge.
The air-water mixture is pressurised to 4–8 bar, with de-pressurisation through specifically designed devices producing fine air bubbles of 30–50 microns — essential for efficient flotation.
